The Makiling Botanic Gardens presents “Palosanto” as the Plant of the Month of April. Its scientific name is Triplaris cumingiana Fisch. & Mey. that belongs to family Polygonaceae. Palosanto is also known as the “Ant Tree” or in some places it is called “Long John.” It is originally from Central America.
The Makiling Botanic Gardens (MBG) presents “Kapa Kapa” as the Plant of the Month (POM) with scientific name Medinilla magnifica. It is originally from the Philippines and favors cool and shaded growing environment like in Mount Makiling. Kapa kapa has become exceedingly rare in its natural habitat and is included in the list of endangered species.
The Makiling Botanic Gardens (MBG) presents the “False Bird of Paradise” as Plant of the Month (POM) with scientific name Heliconia plastachys Baker. It is also known as hanging lobster claw, lobster-claw, crab claw, or hanging heliconia. The false bird of paradise is native to Central and South America, commonly used as landscape plants for their ornamental inflorescence.
